Ski High Above the Dazzling St. Lawrence River
Le Massif is a picturesque resort in the heart of Québec’s Charlevoix region. Located about one hour from Québec City, Le Massif offers a beautiful setting above the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Fantastic views greet skiers on their way down the mountains’ 36 runs. With an average yearly snowfall of 260 inches and good snowmaking facilities, Le Massif is a good bet for great skiing throughout the season.
The resort’s top elevation is 806 meters (2,465 feet), with a vertical drop of 770 meters (2,425 feet), the highest vertical drop east of the Canadian Rockies. The runs are rated 20% beginner, 31% intermediate, 30% advanced, and 19% expert. In addition to downhill skiers, the resort welcomes snowboarders on the slopes and provides a terrain park.
Le Massif is located in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and the resort’s owners have worked to develop the area without spoiling its rugged natural beauty. The resort’s lifts mostly hide behind trees leaving only stunning views of the mountains and the frozen St. Lawrence below.
Québec City is just one hour from Le Massif, making day-trips to the historic city a great opportunity to explore the area’s French culture. The city also lies on the banks of the St. Lawrence River and winter views from the front of the ice floes are magnificent. When it’s too cold outside visitors warm up in Québec City’s museums, historic homes, and art galleries.
